If you are pondering a motorcycle tour adventure and haven't done it before, this book is a decent review of issues you need to consider. Reading the book is rather like sitting with an experienced motorcycle tourer and listening to him expound on advice while having a few beers. Nothing here that cannot be learned from various websites on motorcycle touring but it is a well written and quick introduction. Nothing very specific other than the authors opinions (quite reasonable) on things like rain gear, helmet selection, packing and route planning. Given that motorcycle models and ancillary touring equipment change regularly it is necessary to do a bit of research on line to supplement the author's opinions/recommendations but this book is still a good place to start learning about equipment. Where the book fails is in providing much of a strategy on actually planning a route and especially in failing to provide reference to online resources that are dedicated to motorcycle tour routing. Sites such as Rever for maps and online route planning or FreeCampsites to find places to stay are ultimately much more useful than this book in planning a motorcycle tour. There are a number of smartphone apps that are very useful in planning tours but the author fails to even mention them. Still, as a primer it is useful but would be better if the author had provided a website with links to more specific and up to date planning resources. Actually lots of good information for a rider who has not tried touring. I would say the, "Cons" are in the dated information. Many of the products mentioned are old and have been replaced by newer better options. Of course it was current at the time it was written.
